“On January 25th, during the Interactive dialogue, among 116 countries that spoke, a total of 328 recommendations were made to the Venezuelan State, which has until the 50th session of the Human Rights Council (June-July 2022) to respond to these observations,” said Com. Pizarro in a message posted on his Twitter account.

The senior official of the Government in Charge emphasized that most of the recommendations show that acts of torture, forced disappearances and extrajudicial executions continue in the country.

Similarly, he highlighted the multiple complaints about the lack of independence of the judicial system and the decrease in civic and democratic space.

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a unique process that includes a review of the human rights records of all United Nations Member States. The UPR is a state-led process under the auspices of the Human Rights Council, which offers each state the opportunity to declare what measures it has taken to improve the human rights situation in the country and to fulfill its obligations in the matter.
